Profile
Mike Madrid entered the world of photography like many others using the family camera for snapshots as a preteen in the 1960’s. He really got interested in photography once he discovered the darkroom. Photography became more of an art form when Mike could control the processing and printing along with the actual snapping the shutter. The early years, 1960’s and 1970’s, the emphasis was aviation subjects. Mike’s first love is flying and airplanes. Sorry to disappoint many of the readers but photography isn’t the number one passion. Mike has dabbled in many different facets of photographic including wedding, industrial, portrait, natural, landscape and underwater. But his real passion is still aviation and beautiful women. Mike puts aviation and glamour work on an equal footing but glamour pays the bills better than airplane photos. The Internet has been the best single growth factor in the glamour field. Not only is it a source for most of the income but also the best way for a part timer to become internationally know. Mike now has customers and fans the world over. Like many other part timers, Mike has used makeshift studios in living rooms and garages for decades. Rental studios are an option but according to Mike “you are always looking that clock and thinking about the rental dollars clicking away instead of concentrating on your work”. Mike got his first fully dedicated studio just 12 years ago, a small store front office. The past 8 years Mike has moved to a fully dedicated studio and computer room attached to his house. Mike still does a lot of location shooting, especially on a secluded beach a short drive from the studio but it is always nice to fall back on the studio if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Mike specializes in getting new, inexperienced models started. He is always looking for new and enthusiastic talent. His goal is to one day shoot full time for a living. Now he shoots evenings after getting off his “real” job and weekends. Full time shooting may have to wait until retirement but even part time shooting keeps him happy.
